Out of nearly 500 young inventors attending Invention Convention U.S. Nationals at The Henry Ford in Dearborn, MI, June 4-6, 2025, two Iowa inventors were recognized with awards.

Charles, a grade 6 student at Fox Valley Academy in Ottumwa, won two awards: 2nd Place for 6th Grade and the Best Video Presentation for his invention Fire C.A.V.E.S System. The Fire C.A.V.E.S System (Communication and Vitals Enhancement for SCBA) is a device that firefighters can insert into their SCBA masks allowing them to view vital statistics, communicate with each other, and view thermal camera images while wearing their SCBA masks.

Oliver, a grade 2 student at Summit Schools in Cedar Rapids, also won two awards: 3rd Place for 2nd Grade and the Transportation Category Award for his invention Recessed Rescuer. Recessed Rescuer is a seatbelt positioner designed to allow kids to buckle their own booster seats when the booster sits on top of a recessed seatbelt.
